Baked Sweet Potato Fries

I love sweet potatoes, but I was wondering if I could make them without adding sweetness (brown sugar, marshmallows, etc), which seems to be the usual modus operandi for cooking them. The smokiness of cumin seemed like it might be a good fit if I just added a little bit, so I gave it a shot, and it camed out great. You can just barely taste the cumin in the background, but it seasons the potato perfectly.

  • 4 sweet potatoes
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbl vegetable oil

  • Peel sweet potatoes, and cut into planks approx 1/2 inch around (length doesn't matter, just diameter, which matters for cooking time).

  • Put fries in a bowl, pour in oil and spices, and mix thoroughly.

  • Put on a cookie sheets in a single layer with a little space in between them and bake in a 400 degree oven for approx 30 minutes, until they're cooked all the way through.

  • Serve immediately.

  • 4 sweet potatoes serves 6-8 people.
