Scones
This recipe is pretty much a complete copy of the original. The original can currently be found here (Orange Glazed Blueberry Scones, from Food Network show "Food 911" starring Tyler Florence). I am mirroring a copy of the recipe here because Food Network periodically reorganizes their website, and all the old links stop working (and I really like this recipe, so I want people, including me, to be able to find it).
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tbl baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or cream, though I really like buttermilk)
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 - 2 cups "goodies" for filling, such as berries, chocolate chips, nuts, whatever you want to use
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar, mixing well.
- Cut in butter using forks or pastry blender (if using a Kitchenaid, do not use pastry hook). It is done well if butter pieces are coated in flour and about the size of crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk and egg.
- Add wet ingredients to the dry, and mix just enough to fully incorporate -- do not overwork the dough (if you do, it loses its lightness and becomes denser and heavier).
- Fold in filling ingredient(s). If using berries, be careful not to bruise them.
- Drop large tablespoons of batter on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 15 - 20 minutes. They are done when the top starts to brown.
