Baked Sweet Potato Fries
I love sweet potatoes, but I was wondering if I could make them without adding sweetness (brown sugar, marshmallows, etc), which seems to be the usual modus operandi for cooking them. The smokiness of cumin seemed like it might be a good fit if I just added a little bit, so I gave it a shot, and it camed out great. You can just barely taste the cumin in the background, but it seasons the potato perfectly.
Ingredients
- 4 sweet potatoes
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 2 tbl vegetable oil
Preparation
- Peel sweet potatoes, and cut into planks approx 1/2 inch around (length doesn't matter, just diameter, which matters for cooking time).
- Put fries in a bowl, pour in oil and spices, and mix thoroughly.
- Put on a cookie sheets in a single layer with a little space in between them (so they can crisp up a bit rather than steam), and bake in a 400 degree oven for approx 30 minutes (until edges crisp and they're cooked all the way through).
- Serve immediately. 4 sweet potatoes should serve 6-8 people.
